just once, I really wish I was in the position to just buy the new items that came out immediately! I just totaled up the 6 new historical items and pre shipping they are $178. Almost $200 with shipping. I'd love to be in a place where I was only waiting for the new items and could place an order immediately. I probably should have stuck to collecting for just one doll...but in my case, MY first doll was Josefina. Thanks to the code last year, and some further shopping througout the year, my Josefina collection is complete. But that's not hard either, when she only has 7 outfits, compared to 16 for Samantha! But that's another gripe!

Also, why are they pushing the "modes of transportation" now, when they retired Molly's bike of all things? I hope it's just that they are revising it. I have the original from a good ebay deal, but still, I find it very odd that they retire Molly's, only to bring out one for Samantha (the golden girl!)

If I sound pinchy about Samantha, YES, I am. Lucky for us, there is just Diana and I who collect these dolls and their items. But what if I had two daughters, like many of you? What if one dd had Josefina, and one had Samantha? Now how unfair would that ever be?

The two girls next door to me are now teenagers, but they had one Samantha and one Molly. At least pretty regularly they could get outfits at the same time. That would not be the case if you had Addy, Kirsten, Kaya or Josefina.

Back to my original financial thought, I'm still waiting on getting the three new outfits for Nellie, Addy and Kaya introduced this time last year. (Little things like Marisol and the AGT beach items got in the way!) Oh, yeah, and buying a new house and moving in 8 weeks doesn't help either!

I was thinking kind of the same thing...I really like the new historical items but wow, $68 for Samantha's bike is kinda steep.

Samantha has 16 outfits? Does that include the le bathing costume? If I changed her every 3.25 weeks, she would not have to wear the same outfit twice for a year. IF only I had such a wardrobe.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Well, Tracy, you *could* wear the same outfit for 3.25 weeks and stretch your wardrobe as well, only thing is, even your loved ones might not want to be around you!

LOL - aren't we lucky that the dolls don't have 'body odours' unless they come from smokey/strange smelling places from ebay? That way they can wear just one outfit for a whole year and it doesn't matter

Of course, I wouldn't want to wear a dress with hose and heels for 3 weeks, but pajama-weeks would be great!

I also love the fact that they never grow out of their clothes either!

Actually, tracey, your family and others might look at you strangely if you are dressed in outfits like the talent show dress, with a big bow in your hair....

I looked at the new stuff. The outfits are all really cute.... for a change. I liked Molly's. it was cute. It wasn't like that dude ranch outfit I shudder over.

I can understand the gripe with Samantha having moe things, but she is probably their most popular doll. Plus she was rich and so they have more to work with. So of course she would end up with more.

    Just my thoughts.

I think modes of transportation and outdoor items are common for spring. "Real people stores" are just now updating their bike inventory.

I agree that the price is step on Sams bike. I have seen a few similar reproductions on ebay and even in some home dec (read home goods/target) for cheaper.

Even before Nellie came out, my daughter and I felt Samantha needed a friend, whether named Nellie or not. My daughter would dress her Kirsten in Samantha's clothes when she played with her dolls. Which means, Samantha's clothing had to be used for two dolls, not one.

Samantha does have a big collection. But then there is Nellie who can wear Sam's clothing also. I'm sure lots of girls have other dolls that they like to dress like Samantha, from the same era and all. So now a bunch of dolls can get together for tea, all dressed appropriately and not having to wear duplicate outfits.

It would be nice if American Girl allowed the other doll's worlds to become as large and complete as Samantha's and Molly's have become. I have no idea if that would be a profitable business decision or even if it's possible for them to carry such a huge stock. So it seems AG is focusing on the most popular dolls for now. At least Felicity is back.
